Skill level suggestions when taking classes at 3 Hens and A Chick Quilt Shop.
Beginning in January 2021, teachers are adding suggested Skill Levels to our classes. These are the guidelines to follow when choosing a class:
Basic Beginner - has knowledge of sewing machine, knows how to thread machine and wind a bobbin and has desire to learn quilting
Skilled Beginner - has experience sewing with their machine; understands quilting terms like: rotary cutter, quarter-inch seam, binding, can read and understand quilting patterns and has desire to try new techniques
Intermediate - has quilted several years or has sewn several quilting projects, has attended classes on quilting; seam allowances and block sizes are becoming more accurate, and you are willing to try more advanced techniques in quilting
Advanced - All beginner and intermediate skills above are mastered, you are up for the next challenge of learning more difficult techniques, and you are still learning and growing
Trim the Tree Curvy Log Cabin Quilt is a great quilt to get you in the Christmas spirit. This wall hanging will come together quickly and you could have it on the wall in time for the holidays.
This is a technique class. We will make at least 2 blocks during the time of class.
Skill Level- Skilled Beginner ages 8 and up - Each student will be sewing a pet bandana (material included) using a sewing machine. Student will need to measure a pet's neck to determine, size- (small, medium, large, x large) prior to class.
Craft Activity for ages 6 and older- - Each student will decorate a paper gift bag with stamps, ribbon, stickers.
Again we will discuss some principles of design including: color,
repetition, scale, and proportion. Supplies provided in class.
Quilt as you go Stained Glass
This is a streamlined stained glass technique using fusible bias tape and fabric glue.
This project is quilted, as the leading is machine stitched. Fusible interfacing is used to ensure a smooth finished project.
INTERMEDIATE SKILL LEVEL: Would you love to have an art quilt of your favorite fur baby (dog, cat, horse, etc.)? You will use fusible raw edge applique technique to create your unique pet portrait quilt.
This is the class you have been waiting for. A beginner paper piecing class with Bonnie.
You will learn basic paper piecing with simple patterns.

SKILL LEVEL: Advanced Beginner. Fall is in the air - if you are ready to update your table come join us for this placemat class where you will make either a Pumpkin placemat or a Fall Leaf placemat. Pattern provided in class.
Skill Level: Intermediate During this class we will look at various ways to make pinwheels and learn to use rulers and templates in a new way. It will make you re-think quilts you thought were too difficult to make. Bring some fat quarters and have some fun.
SKILL LEVEL: Skilled to Advanced Beginner - If you missed the first Beginner Applique series of classes, join us for this technique class, where you will learn what stitches to use and practice them on your machine. No project will be completed in this first class.
