2023 0301 Pet Portrait - Instructor: Sherrie Cahill
After enrolling for class, email Sherrie 2 or 3 of your favorite pet photos. She will choose the best photo, enlarge, crop and posterize your photo which you will use to create your individual pattern. Please e-mail Sherrie Cahill (shcahill2@gmail.com) your photos at soon as possible or at least by two weeks prior to first class date.
Guidelines for choosing photos
Use a close-up image. Pet should take up the majority of your photo.
Lighting. Outdoor photo in natural light or a light source coming from the front or side (Avoid Back lighting)
Background If your background is cluttered or the same value as your pet, it may blend rather than present a good outline for your pattern
Photo size Digital file should be at least 2MB-megabytes or larger

CLASS 1: What materials do I need to bring to class 1? (Also bring to class 2 ) ● A black fine line Sharpie marker ● Scissors for cutting paper and fabric ● Steam-a-seam 2 lite amount will vary with each photo. Start with 2 yards ● Light box. If you do not have one, you can use one from the shop. ● Possible fabric choices from your stash CLASS 2: ● Fabric --3 to 6 values of each color you will use in your quilt. We will discuss in class 1 (one) ● Possible background fabric ● Small applique scissors ● Batting & Backing fabric ● Matching thread and/or monofilament thread ● Tweezers (optional but helpful in moving small pieces) ● Sewing machine (FOR HOME USE - YOU DO NOT NEED TO BRING YOUR MACHINE TO CLASS) ● Darning foot/or open toe free motion foot to fit your machine TEACHER PROVIDES FOLLOWING FOR COST OF $15 PER STUDENT (please be prepared to pay Sherrie for these supplies) ● Enlarged posturized print of your photo to use to create your pattern ● 4ml vinyl sheet used to create overlay of pattern ● Foam core board used to draw out and assemble pattern ● 16in x 20in pressing sheet |
