2024 0227 Save the selvages- Boxy Tote Bag Instructor-Cheryl Johnson

This is a 2-day class that will show you a way to use up your selvage stash. 
The first class we will learn how to sew the selvages onto a foundation block.
The second class we will turn those blocks into a sturdy tote bag.
There will be a variety of selvages to choose from if your stash isn't very big or you haven't started saving them yet.

Materials Included: a variety of selvage strips will be available to choose from if you don't have a good stash.
Requirements: *First class- Feb 27 10-2pm Save the Selvages Book 1-1/2 to 2 yards muslin or other "ugly" fabric to use as the foundation to sew the selvages onto Selvages- the best selvages to use are those with color, the designer names, the fabric name, and dots or other designs For easy selvages removal- snip 1" into the color with scissors and then rip the selvage off or you can use a ruler and rotary cutter. If the selvage on the other side has color, it can be used also. *First class we will sew the selvages onto the foundations. *Second class -Mar 6 10-2pm will be the construction of the bag. 8 selvages foundations 1-1/2-yard lightweight denim (chambray or cotton) for lining 1-1/4 yards of Pellon Pel-Tex one-sided fusible (F-71) Thread for topstitching sewing machine scissors rotary cutter and ruler marking pen
